Top Ten Search Engine Ranking

Traffic increases massively when you get the top slot in Google, so think carefully about the most important keyword or phrase that will bring visitors to your website. You may come up with a list as long as your arm, but choose just one to start with.

Top Ten Search Engine ranking

Try to think about a word that is likely to convert through into a purchase, rather than just a general term that will simply drive traffic to your site. For example let's assume you import and export fish for a living. Trying to rank a word like fish is too general and has around 310 million sites all competing for the top slots. Whereas Fish Import and Export is much more likely to lead to a sale and has "only" 1.27 million people competing for it, so it is easier to rank.

If you want a Top 10 Search Engine Ranking you are going to have to work with one word or phrase at a time. It is often wise to start off with less competitive words and then as your sales build, go for the more competitive words. Put very simply, you should manage your search engine optimisation campaign in a manner that quickly becomes self funding - we can teach you techniques for converting visitors through to sales too.

If you search for your word in Google and are not already in the top ten, you are simply not on the web! Google currently dominates the bulk of search engine traffic and chances are that if you rank highly in Google, you will also have a Top Ten Search Ranking in other smaller search engines too.

People have short attention spans and will not plough through hundreds of sites to find yours. If you are not on the front page of the larger search engines you need to do some work to optimise your site to move it up the rankings.

How Can You Guarantee A Top Search Engine Listing?

The short answer is you can't !

Seriously if someone tells you that they can guarantee a first page listing don't believe a word of it. Here is a very simple reason why: Let's assume that you are Google and you have a multi-billion pound business based on paid per click advertising. Would you let some techie working from home place whoever they wanted to at the top of any search phrase in your engine - and take away all the revenue you would have got from paid per click advertising ?

So let's get real here, search engine ranking is about making very serious money if you are at the top of a given sector - due to the sheer number of people that search online each day. The rules are deliberately changed to make life harder for people who specialise in search engine optimisation. This means that you have to plan such a campaign very seriously. It is no different from any other form of advertising, every aspect has to be thought through so that you get the lowest possible acquisition cost per new customers.

How Can We Improve Your Search Engine Position?

Logically there have to be rules (algorithms) used to help search engines decide who will rank highly or not. So there are always sites in position 1-10 when you run a search. Our task is to put you there !

We do this by examining the high ranking competing sites to see which algorithms are currently being used to rank them. We then compare them to your site to see how it differs from these top ranking sites. This information is given to you in a very detailed report which also scores your site out of a maximum of 100.

If your site is sitting with a score of 70 and your competitors 80, the goal is to adjust your site until you have 81 or more !

We charge £49 per in-depth report. You can have your existing techie correct the "errors" or we can quote for doing that work for you.

Let's look at an example - other case histories are shown above (top right).

A customer's site was ranking quite well in MSN, but not in Google. Their web designer had done quite a good job on many of the basic areas, but slipped up on a small technical issue (that would not be obvious to the average web designer):

He had used a Flash element in his coding which had lowered their ranking. We removed the offending code and redesigned the site so that it still looked the same graphically, but went on to get them a first page ranking.
